A2P 10DLC texting registration, in plain words

Get your HighLevel texting registration approved the first time

You cannot text in the US from a local number until the carriers approve your business (A2P 10DLC). Most people fail once, over one checkbox, one sentence in a privacy policy, or one letter in a business name. This page explains it, writes every field for you, and checks your work against HighLevel's real rejection codes. I'm Nuno Tavares, I've walked thousands of people through this, and I'm a HighLevel affiliate.

Quick answer: A2P 10DLC is the US carrier registration a business needs before texting from a local number. In HighLevel you register the brand (legal name and EIN, exactly as the IRS has them) and a campaign (what you text, sample messages, how people opt in) under Settings, Phone System, Trust Center. It costs $24.50 one-time plus $10 a month and takes about two business days when the website, privacy policy and consent form are right.

What A2P is, in one picture

Application-to-person, 10-digit long code. In plain words: the carriers want to know who is texting and about what before they let a business number send.

Your business registers with the carriers through HighLevel. Only then do texts reach the phone.
The brand

Who you are

Your legal business name, EIN and address, checked against government records. This is the part that fails on a typo. HighLevel calls it Brand registration.

Checked once
The campaign

What you text about

Reminders, replies, offers, or a mix. What you write here, plus your website, plus your consent form, is what a reviewer (mostly software) reads. This is the part that fails on wording.

One per purpose
The number

Which number sends

Once the campaign is approved you attach your HighLevel number to it. It then shows "A2P Verified" and texts start delivering.

Up to 24 hours
What happens if you skip it. Since 2023 carriers do not slow unregistered texts, they block them. Every unregistered message is also a TCPA exposure. And a suspension lands on the tax ID, not the account, so it follows the business to any other platform.
What changed in 2026. On 23 March 2026 HighLevel replaced its vague rejection reasons with precise codes (30886 to 30995). Tutorials from 2024 and 2025 miss the two-checkbox rule and the privacy sentence, and they fail.

The six things the reviewer checks on your website

Illustration: a web form with an optional phone field and two unchecked consent boxes, links to privacy and terms below
Phone optional. Two boxes, both unchecked. Real links under them.

Before you touch Trust Center, your site has to pass. The reviewer opens the page you give as the opt-in URL and looks for exactly this.

1
Business name, what you do, a phone or emailOn the page itself, not just in a logo. A page that is only a form fails (code 30920).
2
A form with an optional phone fieldHighLevel's default form makes the phone required. Untick it.
3
Two unchecked consent boxesOne for reminders and replies, one for offers. Your business name in the text, not "[business name]".
4
Privacy Policy link that worksWith the no-sharing sentence. Search your policy for "share", "sell", "affiliate" first.
5
Terms link that works, with an SMS sectionProgram name, STOP, HELP with a real contact, carrier disclaimer, frequency and rates, privacy link, 18+.
6
No login, no bot wallCloudflare "under attack" mode and captchas give the reviewer a 403. The page looks fine to you and fails anyway.

The order to do it in

Illustration: six steps from IRS letter to approved number
Website first, then the form, then the number, then Trust Center.

People fail because they start in Trust Center. Trust Center is step six.

  1. Get your IRS letter (CP 575) in front of you. Both name lines and the address, exactly.
  2. Settings → Business Profile. Legal name, address, business email on your domain, EIN, business type, your name as the representative.
  3. Website: privacy paragraph and SMS terms block. The writer below produces both. Paste, publish, check the links load without a login.
  4. Sites → Forms: the consent form. Phone optional, two boxes with your name, real privacy and terms links, Submit button. Put it on a live page on your domain. A coming-soon page is fine. If the page has a calendar, the form goes first.
  5. Settings → Phone System → buy a number. ID verification is required, so the business owner must be present.
  6. Settings → Phone System → Trust Center → Register. Brand auto-fills from the profile. Paste the writer's campaign fields. Run the 14 checks. Submit.

The writer: fill in six boxes, get every field

You cannot text in the US until HighLevel registers your business with the carriers (A2P 10DLC). Most people fail once. Fill in six boxes and this writes the whole application, the checkbox text, the privacy policy paragraph and the terms block, using the wording that passes as of September 2026.

Why people fail. The reviewer is mostly software matching phrases. A consent sentence a human would call fine still fails when the exact words are missing. HighLevel replaced its vague rejection reasons with precise codes on 23 March 2026, and this writer is built around those codes. Fees, verified on HighLevel's fee page (29 Jul 2026): $24.50 one-time for a sole proprietor or low-volume business ($71.91 high-volume), then $10 a month for a standard campaign or $1.50 for Low Volume Mixed. Rejections resubmit free, but every resubmission restarts the review clock.

The details from the video that get people rejected
  • 1Both lines of the name on your IRS letter (CP 575), typed exactly, and the address exactly as the state has it, even if you moved.
  • 2Phone number field must NOT be required on the form. HighLevel's default form has it required. Untick it.
  • 3Two consent boxes, one non-marketing, one marketing, with your legal name in place of the brackets. Never the placeholder text.
  • 4The Privacy and Terms links on the form must go to real pages, not example.com. Search your privacy policy for "share", "sell", "affiliate" and remove any data-sharing language.
  • 5If you send people to a calendar, the form must be step one, not the calendar. Calendar Settings → Forms and Payment → pick your compliant form, drag it first.
  • 6List every DBA in the use case description and never copy HighLevel's example text. Copied examples are flagged.
  • 7No website yet? A "coming soon" page on your own domain with the form, logo, footer links and business name is enough. A page with no form fails.
  • 8Buying the number needs ID verification, so if you are doing this for a client, have them on the call.

Or just talk to the A2P assistant

Answer in your own words. It asks the eight questions a compliance reviewer would, works out your campaign type, and fills in every field below. Nothing you type leaves this page.

Approval is not the finish line. The number has to be linked, STOP and HELP have to actually work, and your first sends decide your carrier reputation.

A2P texting registration questions, answered

Short answers to what people search. Every number is from HighLevel's own pages, with the date.

What is A2P 10DLC and why does HighLevel need it?

A2P 10DLC (application-to-person, 10-digit long code) is the US carrier registration every business needs before it can send texts from a local number. You register your business (the brand) and what you will text about (the campaign) with The Campaign Registry through HighLevel's Trust Center. Unregistered messages are blocked by carriers, and repeated sending can get the tax ID, not just the account, suspended.

What does A2P 10DLC registration cost in HighLevel?

As of HighLevel's fee page (29 Jul 2026): brand registration plus campaign vetting is a one-time $24.50 for a sole proprietor or low-volume business ($71.91 high-volume), $15 for each extra campaign, then $10 a month for a standard campaign or $1.50 for Low Volume Mixed ($2 sole proprietor, $3 charity). Carriers add about $0.003 per outbound text. Resubmitting a rejected campaign is free.

How long does A2P 10DLC approval take?

A clean submission usually comes back in about two business days; HighLevel includes a $3 fast-track in the fee. Every resubmission restarts the clock. Brand verification can take up to 7 business days if it goes to manual secondary vetting, and a brand new EIN needs 30 to 90 days before it shows in the databases.

Why do A2P 10DLC campaigns get rejected?

HighLevel's rejection list (9 Sep 2026): a privacy policy without the sentence that mobile information and consent are not shared with third parties for marketing (codes 30908, 30932), a consent checkbox that is pre-ticked, missing or bundled with the terms (30925, 30923), consent text missing frequency, rates, HELP and STOP (30924), sample messages without the brand name or opt-out, or using a URL shortener (30893, 30892), a vague use case description (30886), a website that is only a form or needs a login (30920, 30921), and a legal name that does not match the IRS record. Bot protection that blocks the reviewer's fetcher is a silent cause.

What should the SMS consent checkbox say?

It must be unchecked by default, separate from the terms checkbox, and the form must submit without it. The text names the brand, the message types, the frequency, 'Message and data rates may apply', HELP and STOP, and links to the privacy policy and terms. A Mixed campaign needs two boxes, one informational and one marketing. The writer on this page produces the exact wording.

What sentence does my privacy policy need for A2P?

Twilio's own error page (30908) gives the wording: 'We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or messaging consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.' Also remove any language about sharing or selling data with affiliates, and make sure the page is public and not behind bot protection.

Do I need a website to pass A2P registration?

Yes, a live public page on your own domain with the business name, what you do, a phone or email, a privacy policy and terms, and the opt-in form with the consent boxes. A coming-soon page built in HighLevel is enough. A page that is only a form, or one that needs a login, is rejected.

Can I register A2P for a client as an agency?

Yes, each client sub-account registers its own brand and campaign under the client's legal name and EIN, with the client's website and their own consent form. Buying the number requires ID verification, so have the client present. Do not use one agency-wide form for several client brands; the opt-in evidence must show the registered company.

Can I text before A2P approval?

No. Since 2023 carriers block unregistered traffic entirely rather than slowing it. In HighLevel the number shows an A2P Verified label once the campaign is approved and linked; until then texts from that number do not deliver.
